Based on the 2006           NYS OASAS - Gambling Behaviors & Problem Gambling Among Adolescents in  New York State:  School Survey

   FACTS:                          ·         72% of students in grades 7 to 12 report gambling in at least one activity in the past year.  ·         20% of students in grades 7 to 12 are at risk for or in need of treatment for problem gambling.  That's over 300,000 youth.         ·         The most frequent gambling activities for adolescents experiencing a gambling problem are:  playing cards for money; playing pool, basketball or other games of skill; dice.  ·         Among students in grades 7 to12 who are in need of chemical dependency treatment, 45 percent are at risk or in need of treatment for  problem gambling.           ·         Males are four times as likely as females to have a gambling problem.
